New vid card :D

IceBlade 03-27-2007 03:06 PM

It's double mine lol. Very nice.

Lethal 03-27-2007 03:06 PM

Very good vid card! You can play all games with that card*

*depending on your PC

Spin 03-27-2007 03:18 PM

yeah thats a very nice card, i got the lil brother to that one(256mb) and i got it overclocked(gotta love the nvidia software) to 500mhz for clock speeds 1400 mhz memory and even at the stock clock speeds(450mhz) it would run anything i threw at it...does that card have the ddr3 memory also?? mine does, thats kinda why i only bought the 256 mb card cuz the memory has 256bit interface whereas ddr2 memory is only 128bit interface. you will be super happy with that card man...look me up on xfire, i usually playn bf2 almost every night lol.

this is the card i bought, im happy with it, you'll be super happy with yours.

Hermes 03-27-2007 03:59 PM

hmm no its only ddr2 memory. then again i got it for 180. Would that be my virtual memory? I got a pop up saying it was 'too low'

But so far im amazingly happy with it. Every game has an insainly big difference, even CS:S. I jumped on RvS to see if my FPS had improved but it doesn't seem to have at all, said i was averaging about 40 i used to average about the same with my old one.

Spin 03-27-2007 04:30 PM

maybe try to turn the settings up a lil bit and see if it helps..sounds backwards i know, but like with bf2 when i turned up the settings the performance of my card improved.

Hermes 03-28-2007 03:14 AM

i did before i played, i went into the nvidia settings as well and set it to quality over performance tho i think thats what it was.

Hey what is over clocking and how do u do it?

SacredTbag 03-28-2007 07:27 AM

virtual memory is the space on your harddrive that your computer uses once the physical memory has run out. so if you have 512mb ram, and you're using 634mb, the extra 122mb is coming off your harddrive. it's slower than the physical memory, and you have to have enough space alloted on the hdd for it. when you run out of the alloted space, you run out of virtual memory.

as far as agp goes, that's a pretty good card. i think there are only 1-2 cards faster for that platform. you're lucky you got one, it's pretty hard to find good agp cards these days.

as someone said, you'll definetly get more performance out of it, as long as your rig is fast enough to keep up with it. if you're using a 1.2ghz celeron and 256mb ram with that card, it's like throwing a ferrari motor into a pinto. ya it's fast, but you're not gonna be able to take advantage of it. well, ferrari is being generous, i'll call it a 6cyl mustang enging :)

edit: overclocking is making a component run faster than what it was originally intended to. your core clock is 420mhz, and your memory clock is 800mhz (effective, 400x2). you see where it says (400mhz standard) by your core clock? that means that the standard clock for that chip is 400mhz, and it's already been factory overclocked (oc'd) to 420mhz by the 3rd party manufacturer. a modest 20mhz overclock. if you have adequate cooling, the proper software, and the balls for it, you can push the core and the memory to it's limit.

Yeha I bought a Radeon X1900 GT a few months back, i could of saved money with Nvidia, It's a really nice card though i might add, I want to OC it but i need a new case and fans =p

there's a pretty good case. i've got one myself that i bought for a new mod project. it looks 100% better in person than it does in the pics. i would recommend some light modification for better cooling though. get a couple 120mm fans with decent cfm and you're golden :)

Spin 03-28-2007 02:17 PM

yeah the nvidia software can let you change ur clock settings, but do it with caution...luckily the software also has a test button so u can check it before you set it so the chances of screwin it up are a lil less...my card came 450mhz core and 1320mhz for memory clock from factory i got it up to 495 core speed and 1400 for the memory...i need to get a better heatsink before i go much higher with it though, but as it is it runs about 64 degrees celsius under bout 4 hours of hard gaming.

i have yet to try it yet but i heard bout a program from the site below that you can unlock the pipelines easier and stuff

Hermes 03-29-2007 01:38 AM

sweet... well im runnin 768mb of ram on a 2.2 ghz, that work?
Hopefully ill be replacing my 256mb stick with another 512 to make it a gig of ram

as for the temp goes i constantly check the nvidia temperature levels on the card and its consistantly 49-51degrees even when im playin a game, so shit seem good there

Spin 03-29-2007 08:24 AM

yeah the 512 stick of memory will prolly provide more boost for performance i would think, but thats just me. be careful if you decide to adjust the clock settings on your video card, and remember to always test them before just accepting them....if ya dont have good case airflow, i wouldnt really mess with it, as it creates heat kinda fast. i can rarely get my memory spped to go as high as i can get my core speed for the gpu though...i not sure why either lol...sacred any thoughts on that???

Zin 03-29-2007 10:21 AM

i have a 7600 GS. . .i want an 8800 GTX. . .possibly for the summer after i save up!!

that and i want another gig of RAM. i only have 1 so far >.>

Rathious 03-29-2007 11:51 AM

I thought I would post this this is the PC i built on a budget for myself. I am starting my own PC company this summer after I finish up my degrees I am getting one in computer applications and another in computer electronics interfacing and robotics controllers. This system was built for around 1200 bucks for the tower (at time of build).

PC specs:
Manufacturer: Rathware Custom PC's
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.2GHz
Memory: 2048MB RAM
Hard Drive: 160 GB Total
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS 256MB X2 SLI
Monitor: 19" gateway widescreen HD-Display FPD1975W
Sound Card: SB X-Fi Audio
Speakers/Headphones: Logitech x530 5.1
Keyboard: Ideazon USB Zboard Device
Mouse: Razor Diamondback Lazer mouse
Mouse Surface: ALLSOP artist pad
Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.061219-0316)

I currently have 2 PCI-E 7600 GS 256 MB cards that are SLI ready for sale.

Spin 03-29-2007 12:00 PM

that looks real close to the puter that Gonna built for Otis for $1200 lol....and its pretty bulletproof...i love my 7900GS if my MB would support SLI i would prolly get another and do it, and then i would hafta get another PS since mine is only 400W lol, but even as it sits it runs anything on max settings w/o lag.

SacredTbag 03-29-2007 03:41 PM

right now you can build a much better pc for that price (tower only). the opteron processor that i've had my eye on forever now just dropped 5 more bucks, so it's only 149 now. and that's a dual core opteron! that would be a great upgrade for you rath.

Rathious 03-30-2007 01:01 PM

I am going to get the AMD 64x2 4600+. it is like a 160 or something right now. Think i will be building a new sys when I get that though. prolly put 2 8800 GTS 320MB vid cards in that and run SLIX16 MoBo. 800 hundred dollar upgrade but well worth it lol. Prolly a little more then 800 who knows cross that bridge when I get there. I want to get my backyard done with new patio and all that, already installed my outdoor speakers and what not.
