lhurgoyf 01-31-2008 10:11 PM

ends with net, starts with use

never gets shut down.

eighteesix / Killya 01-31-2008 10:25 PM

i use it but i prefer private torrent trackers for music

IceBlade 02-01-2008 03:34 AM

Why lol. Everything from torrents comes from Usenet. Well.. practically everything. Get Limewire.

eighteesix / Killya 02-01-2008 01:34 PM

i hope youre joking.

IceBlade 02-01-2008 01:47 PM

I use Limewire for all my individual song dl's.

I inquired here once before about it, but now I can afford it, any lowdown on how it works exactly?

IceBlade 02-02-2008 11:43 AM

When I first started learning I think Khaoz and Lhurg tried explaining it. Eventually I just Googled it. It seems complicating but once you know how it works it isn't.

Basically you can post messages on newsgroups and such so instead of just posting text people started posting different types of data. You can only fit so many characters of code into one post so they created programs and such to take a big file, break it down and post it in lots of smaller files. What you need is an indexing site such as http://v3.newzbin.com which is pretty cheap. Then you need a server www.usenet.com or www.giganews.com both have free trials I think which you should use to test it out. Check out the prices, speeds and download limits before buying anything.

Now you'll need a program that open's up a .nbz file. I don't completely understand that part but how it works is you pick files off your indexing site and there will be an option to create an .nbz which I think just organizes all the smaller files and such so they all go together and download into one bigger file. I use Grabit, which is free but on my other computer I use Newsleecher which, ironically, I got off Usenet lol. So after setting up your server info in Grabit or w/e you open your .nbz with it and it will queue up all the files you've selected.

You'll notice mostly anything you download will come with PAR files. These are repair files. If one little piece of a file is missing obviously it won't work so these files can repair them. No idea how it works but it's amazing. I use Quickpar. The process is pretty simple. Just open Quickpar and go to Options. Checkmark Repair Automatically and anything else you want. I have it delete the damaged and repair files afterwards. Then click okay and close Quickpar. Now doubleclick your .par2 file, have it open with Quickpar, and it will start checking all your files. Once the repair is complete you can extract your file and from there I think you know what to do. If you need any help I'd be glad to give you runthrough's. My MSN and Xfire info's available through the site I believe.

Ghostex 07-30-2009 06:57 PM

Okay so a year or so later I finally get going on this newsgroups shit. And if any oldschool FA need an invite to Demonoid or What.CD or tehconnection.eu (movies) I will gladly give you an invite, one available for each so first come first serve. And PLEASE seed and maintain your account, that is all I ask for in return.. I like my account :p

EDIT:

Ok so after the first 6 hours of trying to figure out how to use all of this.. I haven't been able to download a fucking thing, I am using usenet.com as my server, Grabit as my software.. When I am downloading "headers" I guess they are called, they go at like 152KB/s and take forever to download... when im downloading with torrents they go up to like 1.6MB/s. I try batch downloading, but nothing downloads.. I have an account at Newzbin now but I can't figure out what the heck I am doing there. Tutorial sites are just a big mess to read and all use different programs.

I have no idea what the heck is going on.. it seems so much more work to download from these newsreaders than the simple opening of a .torrent file and letting it do the rest in utorrent.

eighteesix / Killya 08-11-2009 10:02 AM

ha man its way better, assuming you can find what you need (typically you can).

im on a mac but its not that different. you need a site to find and download nzb files (the package file). then you need a program that loads the nzb file and downloads all the individual package files (rar or par files). then you need a program that opens the par file, checks the package, and puts it together. then thats it. both programs you need are very common and youll have choices. the first app should be used for only downloading and the second will work similar to winzip.

some apps have repair tools built in in case some of your downloaded files are incomplete, or you may have to download a separate repair tool.

let me know with any specific questions.

also, i have invites to demonoid, what.cd, waffles, scienceHD, torrentleech, and savethecoratee

IceBlade 08-11-2009 06:15 PM

Use Newzbin as your catalog site, Grabit to download, and Quickpar to repair. Newsleecher is also good but you'll have to get Grabit first to download the cracked version of Newsleecher :P On Newzbin you'll have to find something you want, go into that link and then select all the files 'cause they'll be like Movie.r01, Movie.r02, etc. and you'll need them all to extract. For your speed issues make sure you're using the max number of connections you can. Most places do 10 I think. Just right click your server and click edit and change the number of connections if it's only set to 1.

eighteesix / Killya 08-12-2009 11:31 AM

definitely use 5-10 threads (connections)

when looking at something you want on newzbin, all you have to do is press the button "create nzb file" and thats your .nbz file, similar to .torrent file
