More about spam
It has been a while since we first addressed the issue of spam. The system we have checks all post messages from users with less than 3 posts through akismet anti-spam and will not allow urls. Once you get 3 posts, these limits are removed. While it is not perfect, it has been a decent system and has limited any actual spam that has links in it.
Well, it has become apparent that spammers have taken a new approach to getting their job done. They have taken to private messaging. So, now the limits that have been inforced on forum posts now apply to private messages. Hopefully this will limit the actual spam that gets through to everyone and will not have any adverse effects on the pm system. If you find any problems, please let me know.
As the spammers invent ever creative ways to peddle their links we will continue to try and stop them. And so, the fight continues.
