West Bank Story
If none of you have heard of this yet, someone has made a movie of the Israel-Palestinian conflict and turned it into a parody, and it is getting ALLOT of attention. It was rated the best 2006 short film.
From the clips of the movie that I have seen, it is alright; nothing super original but it gets the job done. The main point however is that it is a very sensitive issue, so the director invited many that are involved in the conflict to see the movie for themselves. At the end of the movie it was a very tense atmosphere, a lady in the back stood up though and announced to everyone in attendance that she was from some city in the west bank, and that she wanted them to know that she thought the movie was funny and that it was okay to laugh. The mood of the crowd just melted away and the director got a standing ovation and it has turned into a rallying cry that there is hope in the middle east.
I applaud the courage of the director, this movie could have turned into a complete flop but not only was it a tremendous success, it has created a potentially world changing event.
