Just some suggestions to try....

1) check to MAKE SURE it's plugged into the same jack as always.
2) go to control panel
> find your sound options/get in the sound mixer via the icon at the bottom right (by the time) by double [left] clicking it
> click on Options
> Properties
> click the Recording button
>make sure your mic/line in are checked in that box
> click ok
> for sake of making sure it's not physically broken, turn up the microphone slider ALL THE WAY UP
> if you dont see an advanced button go to options, advanced controls
> click the advanced button
> MAKE SURE MIC BOOST IS ON
> click ok.
> open up sound recorder (start > all programs > accessories > entertainment > sound recorder) and try recording ~5-10 second blurb through your mic. if nothing comes through then it's probably either sound card drivers or a broken microphone.

hope you get it working,
